Overview

Stockton is a town in central Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by Pomfret and a small bit of Portland, to the east by Charlotte and Gerry, to the south by Ellery and to the west by the town of Chautauqua. The village of Cassadaga is in the northeast part of Stockton, and the town also contains several hamlets.


Essentials

Stockton has a few small businesses, like a pizza shop, an ice cream shop and a small Shur Fine grocery, but most residents here handle their shopping needs in nearby communities. For groceries, Pomfret and Fredonia have a Walmart Supercenter, a Country Fair store and the Fredonia Deli and Food Mart.



Recreation & Entertainment

Stockton and Cassadaga are wide-open communities where outdoor activities are the primary draw. Cassadaga Lakes and Cassadaga Creek provide plenty of space for fishing, hiking, camping and hunting. Lily Dale Assembly, a Spiritualist community that’s open to the public, is in Stockton.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 60 is a major north-south highway in the eastern part of Stockton.



Pros & Cons

Stockton is largely rural and wide-open, with interesting natural attractions like the Cassadaga Lakes and Lily Dale Assembly. This is an area long known for Spiritualism. You’re close to the busier communities of Chautauqua and Fredonia.
