Overview Charlotte is a town in central Chautauqua County, bordered to the north by Arkwright, to the east by Cherry Creek, to the south by Gerry and to the west by Stockton. Most of the village of Sinclairville is in the southwest corner of Charlotte (the rest is in the town of Gerry) and the town also has a few hamlets. Charlotte is located fairly centrally to the biggest municipalities in the county – Jamestown to the south, Dunkirk to the north and Chautauqua to the west. Charlotte and Sinclairville are part of the Allegheny River watershed, with Mill Creek (a tributary of Cassadaga Creek) running through the town. This is a highly rural area – the town has fewer than 2,000 residents and the village has about 500. Camping, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities are popular here. The village has a few small businesses and it’s a quick drive to surrounding towns that have more things to do and places to shop. Local Museums & Landmarks Valley Historical Museum is on Main Street in Sinclairville. The museum has exhibits featuring production of butter, cheese and maple syrup. Neighboring Stockton has Lily Dale Assembly Museum, billed as the “World’s Largest Center for the Science, Philosophy and Religion of Spiritualism.”

Essentials Sinclairville has a few small businesses, including the Sinclairville Superette on Main Street, and neighboring Stockton has a small Shur-Fine store. For more grocery-shopping options, you’ll have to drive a short distance. To the south in Jamestown (16 miles or so) is a Wegmans supermarket. To the north in Fredonia (about 14 miles) is a Walmart Supercenter, the Fredonia Deli and Food mart and a Country Fair store. For retail shopping, the Fredonia Walmart is the biggest area store, and Fredonia also has a Sears Hometown Store and more. Students who live here attend the Cassadaga Valley Central School District, which has one elementary school (in Sinclairville) and one middle-high school. The closest hospital is the WCA Hospital on Glasgow Avenue in Jamestown. The Sinclairville Free Library is on Main Street in the village.
